100 movies in 2008 update:
1. The Ten
I don’t really think this movie worked on a cohesive level, but there were many parts I enjoyed, and I laughed more than a few times. The first segment with Adam Brody was probably my favorite, and I’m a sucker for Paul Rudd.
2. Waking the Dead
One of the better movies I have seen this year. I liked the ambiguity about the end, which makes me want to read the novel.
3. Collateral
Excellent thriller. Although, I am confused by Jamie Foxx’s supporting actor nomination for this movie because it was more of a lead role. And I didn’t think Mark Ruffalo would be gone so fast.
4. There Will Be Blood
This movie was not what I was expecting. I thought it would be a face-off between Daniel Day-Lewis’s character and Paul Dano’s, but instead it was more about DDL and his “son.” The use of music in this movie was excellent, it kept you on-edge, and the movie would have been significantly different without it. This was also quite lengthy– a bit too long for my taste.
5. Sydney White*
For a movie that could afford to case a few more familiar faces than just Amanda Bynes (John Schneider anyone?), you’d think they could have gotten her a better hairstylist. She looked like she was wearing a wig. Overall this movie was cute but blah.
6. She’s the Man*
This is going to sound all cheesy, but this movie reminded me of why Amanda Bynes used to have a career in comedy– albeit on Nickelodeon. My brother even laughed a few times, which is saying a lot. A pretty decent rental if you’re looking or one. I watched it on On Demand.
*Yes, my sister and I had an Amanda Bynes-fest on Saturday. DEAL WITH IT!
