I still can read!
I feel like I am just flying through the stack of books on my desk that I have been meaning to read. Here’s what I have finished lately.
Odd Thomas | Dean Koontz
- I had a hard time visualizing some of the supernatural elements in the book. For example, the room that Odd goes into and time-travels out? Couldn’t even see it in my mind. That and the bodachs.
- His love interest was named Stormy… which I think it fairly laughable. Also, she was written with a purely male audience in mind, which irked me.
- Good ending!
Amsterdam | Ian McEwan
- I thought I would warm up with this one before I actually read Atonement. I’ve seen the movie, so I already know the plot of that one will frustrate me.
- This plot was not frustrating! Huzzah!
- At 193 pages, it’s a very quick read. Also, I’m not English major, but it felt pretty high-brow to me. And I love false senses of superiority.
- I highly recommend this.
Twilight | Stephenie Meyer
- These are the books that all those teenage girls are reading.
- Meyer is an awful writer. I will admit that there is something about the story, but her writing is so… so… ugh. I lost track of how many times I rolled my eyes!
- I’ll probably get all excited to see the movie in December. Like a sucker!

I wish I was more of a reader. I’m slowly making my way through a couple books on my bedside stand. Amsterdam sounds really good, though.
Sadly, I would probably like Twilight because I adore stupid teenage books. Like The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. But that was kind of well written…

I love some of Koontz’s stuff, but honestly he’s 50/50. Some of his stuff is amazing and some of it just SUCKS. Try reading Velocity. It’s a really great one.
LOVE the new template btw.

I agree with you on the Twilight stuff. It’s not just teenage girls, though. Every woman I teach with reads these books. Every kid from 13 – 18 that I teach (who would read anything, mind you, the mouth-breathers still don’t read anything) reads these books. Like you, I wanted to see what all of the hootie-hoo was about, but I couldn’t make it through half of one. Like you, I’ll wait for the movie like a chump.

I wish I would actually be able to finish a book within one year after I start reading it, lol. I haven’t read any of those books, I hope you enjoyed reading them, though!
Btw, your comment in your sidebar “Does anyone know where I can get a boyfriend of my very own? *sigh*” made me laugh out loud XD

I am about to start Atonement, but may have to do Amsterdam since you liked it so much. Good recommendations!

I’ve held back from reading Twilight, but now that the movie is coming out, I have to check it out!

Y’know, I still prefer split infinitives. It sounds more natural.
