Roommates

Margaret

I had a lovely dinner date with my old roommate Margaret on Friday night. I was reminded of all the reasons why I enjoyed having her around all the time. One of which is the fact that Margaret tolerates my tone-deaf singing. That makes her, as Margaret would say, “a p-a-l!”

That is not to say that I am not enjoying my new roommate, Amelia. We had a walk around the park date on Saturday morning. Fun times!

But me? I’m just really looking forward to my next roommate.

To-do, tah done!

  1. renew driver’s license  I am a licensed driver again!
  2. pay parking ticket  I am no longer in trouble with the city!
  3. find gainful employment  I start my new job on Monday!
  4. buy a parking pass for school  Wow this was expensive!
  5. buy groceries  Hello, Ramen!
  6. unpack my stuff  New room looks good!
  7. figure out how to still graduate in December  Consider me done December 13th!

Yeah.  All done.  I should also mention that every single one of these items was completed by Wednesday afternoon.

My Summer in Numbers, Part I

You thought you were done hearing about my summer on Martha’s Vineyard? You thought wrong!

3 pairs of sunglassesP1010144

I lost my first pair of sunglasses during the first week I was there on a trip to South Beach. The waves are rough there… that beach is not for kids! The second pair I broke out of sheer stupidity. Oh well.

5 bottles of sunscreen

I’ve learned my lesson when it comes to spray-on sunscreen. It may be more efficient, but it is by no means more economical. At about $11/bottle on the island, Coppertone sucked up all my money this summer.

2 bicycles

The bicycle that I had originally purchased and brought with me from the mainland turned out to be an awful, awful bicycle. There were many times when I would be biking with friends around the island and could not keep up for the life of me. But I would like to thank my roommate for 48-hours who was an alcoholic for leaving behind his bicycle rental for which he had already paid. Gracias!

11 ginger margaritas

Oh, the ginger margarita at Sharky’s Cantina! How delicious you tasted underage! How delicious you still tasted after my birthday! How my father scoffed at you! Ginger margarita, I miss you.

900 iced coffees

I probably didn’t have 900 iced coffees in actuality, but it sure felt like it. I try not to think about the amount of money I dropped at Espresso Love alone. And then I went to work and there was MORE ICED COFFEE! I’m officially addicted.

An excellent time for free food

This past weekend I enjoyed a lot of free food. And beer! On Friday evening I got to have dinner with my 3 favorite high school girls– my sister Audra, Hope, and Courtney.

High School Girls + Me

Our meal was comped! I think God knew I could use some free food.

And God really must have known, because he provided me with more free food that very next afternoon! My father competed in a Rib-Off. He may have lost, but at a Rib-Off, really doesn’t everyone win?

Rib-off!

Then Saturday night I got some free booze while I sang karaoke with Nenn.  And whoah, would not trade the fun times we had that night for anything!

I had to pay for my own food today.  It was highly disappointing.

Island Time

P1010136

I’m having some trouble getting off what they call “island time.” Last week I came back to Knoxville and proceeded like I was still on vacation. And it was worth every penny and minute, not gonna lie.

Tomorrow is Monday and I plan to make a fresh start at transitioning back into my life in Knoxville. I told my brother Allen today that I was going to have my life in order by the end of the week. Then I made a to-do list:

  1. renew driver’s license
  2. pay parking ticket
  3. find gainful employment
  4. buy a parking pass for school
  5. buy groceries
  6. unpack my stuff
  7. figure out how to still graduate in December

I know it’s a tall order. I’ll let you know on Friday how I did.
